Dust off the 80s vinyl, rustle up some sequins and stilettos and pin a feather in your hair - Australian audiences will have the chance to continue their affaire de coeur with Nouvelle Vague when the ultra chic group returns to Australia next month for an unplugged tour.
Since the phenomenal success of their debut self-titled album in 2004, audiences around the world have embraced the unique sound of founders and multi-instrumentalists Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux, bringing a bossa-nova twist to classic 80s post-punk hits. Their 2006 follow-up, Bande à Part, added a dash of Caribbean salsa to the mix for even more fun, paying homage to the original songs while at the same time making the lilting reinterpretations all their own.
Australian audiences in particular have fallen for the Gallic charms of Nouvelle Vague and their coquettish covers of songs by Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Clash, The Buzzcocks, Echo And The Bunnymen and friends.
On their popular So Frenchy So Chic tour the energy of the band and the room led thousands of audience members to join in a memorable extended encore of Love Will Tear Us Apart.
The band tours with a constantly changing lineup of talented musicians and vocalists who are all part of the Nouvelle Vague extended family, and on this tour their ‘unplugged’ five piece combo will be fronted by chanteuses Melanie Pain and Nadeah.
Plus fans of Nouvelle Vague will be excited to hear the band will also be previewing songs from their new album, including covers of classics by New Order and The Cure. Rendevous with Nouvelle Vague for a night of some seriously chic chanson.
