MUKTI AND REVIVAL (NEPAL)
Although rock and pop music continue to dominate the music culture in Nepal, Mukti and his band have to keep the blues alive in Nepal for more than 20 years. He has also introduced this genre of music to several generations that may have otherwise never considered listening to a blues album.
Growing up, Mukti was influenced by the traditional music of the Newar Guthis and Bahals as well as his own family, particularly his older brother who used to sing and play the guitar. "My older brother used to sing and play and after he was done he'd leave the guitar in the room. Then I'd pick it up and have a go at it," Mukti recalls. It was long however before Mukti was playing with his own band, and eary into his teen years he formed a band with a group of friends and called themselves "Radium"
Over the years Mukti has witnessed the ever changing music scene in Katmandu, playing in croweded concert halls to the back streets of Nepal. Like the music scene he has also transformed, once a young boy with aspirations of being in a rock band to the present Mukto who is a loving father, business man, and music pioneer.
