Illusive are very excited to announce the Melbourne show for West Coast hip-hop legend DJ Quik at Prince Bandroom on Friday 16th March. In Australia for the very first time in a career which has spanned over 20 years, the MC, producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist is well recognised as one of the most iconic figures of West Coast rap culture.
With eight solo albums to his name, bookended by 1991 platinum debut ‘Quik is the Name’, and 2011’s ‘The Book of David’ (Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2011), Quik has also been a regular collaborator with the likes of Dr. Dre, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Eazy-E and Nate Dogg. His remarkable production résumé also includes Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Tony! Toni! Tone!, The Game and Janet Jackson, as well as features on the Menace II Society and Above the Rim soundtracks. The list goes on.
Quik will take the lucky crowd on a journey through his phenomenal back catalogue of solo and collaborative hits spanning near three decades, illustrating first hand why he will go down as one of the most important figures in hip-hop history, and contemporary West Coast culture.
