~ DAN SULTAN ~
Dan Sultan is an extraordinarily gifted musician. His debut album ‘Homemade Biscuits’ a collaboration with guitarist and songwriter Scott Wilson was released independently in 2006 to rave reviews. Their sound can be best described as a mix of blues, soul, rock and country. As a result of this diversity, the band have performed at a wide range of festivals across Australia building up a solid reputation for their knockout live performances.
The much anticipated second album ‘Get Out While You Can‘ was recorded in Melbourne by Jonathan Burnside using a myriad of vintage equipment to achieve a supremely warm and genuine sound. Unlike the first album that was performed almost entirely by Dan and Scott, the new release finds an established band of great musicians in full swing.
The title track was inspired by a tale of a couple soon to be separated by war. Their lifeline, someone who these days would be referred to as a people smuggler. Themes range from drug addiction, prison and domestic violence to skydiving accidents and goddess worship, while musically leaping from big band soul to outback country and rockabilly and beyond…
‘Get Out While You Can' has some special guest performers including Ella Hooper and the legendary Vika and Linda Bull. Dan Sultan and Scott Wilson are artists who make full strength albums that unashamedly cross boundaries and genres and take the listener on a memorable journey.
Sultan’s career is about to explode thanks to collaborations, touring, festivals and a starring role in the upcoming feature film Bran Nue Dae, with a cast of stars including Geoffrey Rush, Missy Higgins and Jessica Mauboy.
The new album was released independently through MGM Distribution on November 6th 2009 and is currently the highest selling record on the 100% Independent Australian Album Charts.
