ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI ‘LIKE IT OR NOT’ TOUR MAY 2008
Genre-hopping, instrument-swapping, expectation-confounding, musical melting pot Architecture In Helsinki are psyched to announce a new Melbourne show has been added to the Like It Or Not tour.
On Thursday May 15th the band will be shaking the foundations of the Prince Bandroom with support from sun-soaked, Spanish psychedelicist El Guincho.
Hot on the heels of their appearance at uber-hip Californian music festival Coachella, the band will be criss-crossing the continent for their first and final Australian live shows for the year. The tour will coincide with the launch of the Like It Or Not single, this will be limited edition and included in the ticket price. It's the final single to be lifted from Places Like This, their groundbreaking, ground-shifting third album. It's this record that has taken the band from much loved indie contenders to chart topping world conquerers.
First single, Heart It Races, saw Architecture In Helsinki crack the American charts in a big way, peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Singles Chart and number 3 on the Billboard Dances Sales Chart. Places Like This reached number 5 on the Billboard Electronic Albums Chart and spent five weeks in the top ten of the CMJ Album Chart.
The band took their chaotically vibrant live show to festivals in Portugal, France, Mexico, Spain, the UK, Italy, Germany, the USA and almost everywhere else on the planet that has stages and electricity. They also headlined dozens of their own shows, handpicking some of the most exciting new acts in the world as supports including the hotly tipped Santogold, Lo Fi FNK and Glass Candy.
Closer to home, things have been just as busy for the band. Places Like This scored Album of the Week on Triple J, Triple R, FBI, 3PBS and RTR FM. They were chuffed when Heart It Races was nominated for the ARIA Single Of The Year award and Places Like This was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Two Architecture in Helsinki tracks cracked this year's Triple J Hottest 100, with Heart It Races sneaking its way in to the top twenty.
Joining Architecture in Helsinki on the Like It Or Not Tour will be Spanish psychedelicist El Guincho. Taking cues from afrobeat, calypso, tropicalia, trance and doo wop El Guincho creates an undefinable mélange of joyous, danceable pop. His mind expanding debut album Alegranza has just been released locally on Mistletone and is soon to be released on XL in the UK and USA. His live shows have been called “amazonic rave” and are a one man mishmash of percussion, vocals, a floor tom and a whole bunch of samples.
This is your only chance in 2008 to catch Architecture in Helsinki's frenetically entertaining and endearingly idiosyncratic live show.
